What is the Cost of Wisdom Tooth Extraction in Singapore?
Wisdom tooth extraction is the process by which a dentist removes one or more wisdom teeth. Also known as the third molar, wisdom teeth typically erupt in the late teens or early twenties. Some people never experience any issues, others, however, may develop problems such as pain or infection, that make extraction necessary.
Prices for wisdom tooth extraction often depend on whether a simple or surgical extraction is necessary. To help you make an informed decision, we’ll explore the nature of wisdom teeth, get into more detail on why they may need to be removed, and highlight some of the factors that influence the cost of extraction.
Summary:
The cost for wisdom tooth extraction in Singapore ranges between $150 and $2500, depending on the complexity of the procedure. At Dr Mike Teoh Dental Clinic, wisdom tooth extraction costs:
- $196.20 – $381.50 for non-surgical extractions
- $1220.80 onwards for surgical extractions

What is a Wisdom Tooth?
Wisdom teeth are the third permanent molars located at the very back of your mouth. They are the last set of teeth to erupt, usually between 16 to 21 years of age. In many traditions, it is a period associated with gaining wisdom and maturity, which is how they derive their name. Most people have four wisdom teeth, located in each corner of the mouth. However, it’s not uncommon to find some who have fewer or none at all.
Why Does a Wisdom Tooth Need to be Extracted?
In some individuals, wisdom teeth erupt in an ideal position, with an opposing tooth, where they can be used for chewing.
There are a few occasions, however, where a wisdom tooth may need to be extracted. For example, when it fails to fully erupt due to the lack of space, or when it emerges at an awkward angle, obstructed by surrounding structures. These are known as impacted wisdom teeth.
Impacted wisdom teeth can cause pain, damage to other teeth, infections, gum swelling, cysts and tumours, as well as extensive tooth decay. We may also recommend extraction, if they are difficult to clean (to reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease) or if you are experiencing recurring infections around the wisdom tooth, swelling or redness, difficulty opening the mouth or an unpleasant taste and bad breath.
What is the Cost of Wisdom Tooth Extraction in Singapore?
The cost of wisdom teeth extraction depends on what type of extraction you may need to undergo.
Non-Surgical Extraction
Non-surgical extraction, especially for fully erupted teeth, is typically conducted by applying local anesthesia, followed by gentle loosening and removal of the tooth using specialised instruments. Given the relative ease of the procedure, the cost is considerably less, depending on the individual and the institution.
The cost of non-surgical extractions ranges anywhere between $30 and $300 depending on the institution and the complexity of the case. The waiting time for treatments in public hospitals and polyclinics for non-emergency dental services is approximately three months. While private clinics are slightly more expensive, the upside is that you can make an appointment within a shorter time frame.
Surgical Extractions
Surgical extractions are usually conducted when a wisdom tooth is only partially erupted, impacted or angled in a way that makes it difficult to access. Surgical extractions are also generally recommended for teeth that are located close to nerves or sinuses, still in the early stages of development, or positioned at an odd angle.
During the surgery, an incision is made in the gum to expose the tooth’s root. Sometimes, parts of the surrounding jawbone may need to be removed for better access. After gaining access, the wisdom tooth is then divided into a few pieces and gently extracted. Once the tooth is completely removed, the gums are stitched back into place. During the course of the surgery, you’ll be sedated or under local or general anesthesia.
Given the complexity of the procedure, the cost of surgical extraction is higher. The cost can range between $400 and $2500.
Are There Any Subsidies for Wisdom Tooth Extraction?
Yes, you can claim your treatment costs under the Medisave scheme. However, Medisave only covers the cost of surgical extractions.
